ASIAN ARCHITECTURE (ARC 2234)

Project 1 Case Study Paper

This project is driven by Architectural Design Studio 4, as an approach to support students’ design through extensive research within the framework of sustainability design in Asia. The sustainability design framework focuses on the building assigned for site visit, with research objectives defined through in-depth literature review, leading to a well-established case study paper structure and writing.

In this project, I have indentified from the given research area which I intent to investigate through observations and readings on contemporary sustainable design practices and issues in Asia using the assigned site visit building which is Belum Rainforest Resort in Perak. After the research area which I have chosen 'Vernacular Architecture' is confirmed, I started to conduct extensive literature review, to identify the specific topic/issues/significance of study then define specific scope of study. Using the assigned site visit building, I have generate a research title that reflects the research intention and specific scope of study, within the framework of the selected research area and significance of study. The title of my research is 'Adaptation of Malay Vernacular Architecture Features in the Traditional Chalet ‘Kampung House’ of Belum Rainforest Resort to Achieve Better Air Ventilation and Heat Gain Reduction'.
