Project 1 Famous People, Familiar Faces:
Diagramatic Abstraction
We are formed in a group of 5 for this project. We were assigned to study about a building Santillana Beach House which designed by an famous architect Henri Ciriani. We have been doing research online and also in library to get more informations of the architect and the building. We have came out with a series of postcards to show the diagram drawings of the building. Besides that, our group also drew the plans, elevations and sections of the building on the tracing papers. We have made a model of the building and a sketch model of the building which came in boxes and can be fixed together to form the building.
I have learned various construction elements in this project. My understanding of principles of construction, sequence of construction activities, importance of basic detailing, construction joints and material application has been enhanced through this real life project. This project also creates an opportunity to study the relationship between site and construction method. We have came out with a complete documentation by separating different parts among the groupmates. I am in charge of doing documentation of health and safety and vehicles.

Through this project, I have been introduced to more famous architects and their works. I learned more about basic architectural compositions of solids, planes, lines and frames. I have learned how to present diagramic drawings of the building on postcards and analyse architectural work of the architect. I have learned how growing environment of an architect will influenced his works. Besides, I have learned that the importance of rational thinking in designing a house which has to include many things as considerations such as the climate, the environment, the function and the local style.
