ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABLE DESIGN (ARC 1413)
Project 2 Paying It Forward
Exploring the sense of environmental and community engagement as future designer
This project required every team to look for a charity home to help them improve their situation such as their home's facilities, environment and furnitures. We have to decide which charity home is more in need of our help. In the end, our group has decided to help House of Joy to clean the surrounding of the home and also build bonsai racks for them to allocate the bonsai so that the children can have a space for their playground. We have came up with a proposal and later on we confirmed our design for the bonsai rack. We went to the House of Joy to clean the surrounding and rearranged the bonsai. Then we went to look for materials from recycle items collecting company. We bought steels to make the bonsai rack at cheaper price as they are recycled items. We start cutting and welding to build the rack. After the rack is done, it was moved to the House of Joy by lorry as we cannot carry it by car because it is too large in size. We painted it and planted the foundation of it into the ground. We chose some bonsai to be displayed on the rack as our bonsai racks are not capable to carry all the bonsai which there are more than hundreds of them.
The picture below shows the site where we get the steels: The picture below shows the bonsai racks are placed all around the space:

The drain is blocked and we have to clear it with water from pipe When the racks are done, we placed bonsai on them

After that, we have came up with a documentation report and also a video.

In this project, I have learned how to work in a team by separating work among each others. We have been well communicated and knew what are we supposed to do. This has made everyone of us enjoyed a lot during the project. I also learned how greatful it is to lend a hand to those in need. As a student, we can also contribute to the society, that is really something meaningful to me. I appreciate a lot in this project where what I have contributed is just a little but I feel really happy when I see the children finally can play at the playground and saying thank you to us.
